Monitor Pass

Aspens at the edge of the sagebrush.

monitor_panorama3-2016-10-01-f-e1a-z-w

I processed this using Photoshop and Nik Color Efex Pro. I love the bright yellow Aspen behind the seemingly taller Aspen in the foreground.

Another ‘star’ shot. Aperture f/29.

Sonora Pass

rogr0434-w

I drove up Sonora Pass in mid-September. The trees were just starting to turn, but I found this color just east of the Pass.

rogr0437-w

The leaves are just starting to turn.

rogr0486-a-z-w

Surprisingly, there is still water running at high elevation.

If only a Moose or Elk had wandered through…

Hope Valley Area

hope-valley_panorama1-2016-09-22-f-e2a-z-w

I drove up CA 88 in late September to check the fall colors. I hiked a short distance to get above Sorensen’s Resort and found this view.

rogr1429-a-z-w

This is a shot of the trees above CA 88, on the north slope of the mountain.

rogr1441-a-z-w

It’s going to be a great year for fall colors. The Annual Aspen Festival is October 8-9, 2016.

rogr1445-e1-w

I had a little fun while processing this image. I stacked two filters in Nik Color Efex Pro.

rogr1450-a-z-w

The sun was a little high in the sky, but I thought I’d try anyway. I love the starburst effect.

rogr1450-nikanalog-bokeh2-w

I wasn’t satisfied with the starburst, so I tried some new filters in the Nik Analog Efex collection. This particular filter uses ‘bokeh’ and a blurred vignette.

rogr1450-nikanalog-bw-w

While exploring the Nik Analog Efex filters, I tried some black and white filters. Nik Analog makes the images look like film, with film edge and dust overlays. Not sure I like this particular effect, but it was fun to try new things!

rogr1459-w

The new pavement on CA 88 has great contrast with the fall colors.

rogr1486-a-z-w

Looking down the trail on my hike!

rogr1487-e1-w

Fall is my favorite time of year!

Blue Lake Road

rogr1524-e1a-z-w

I found these beautiful trees on the road to Blue Lake.

rogr1522-a-z-w

I loved these trees and rocks…

rogr1520-e1a-z-w

…and I turned around and saw this! When taking pictures, don’t forget to turn around and look in all directions, so you don’t miss potential shots.

California has been on fire, literally.  We enjoy gorgeous sunsets as a result.  All of these are shot from my yard.

This tree is growing at the top of a road cut. Over the years, the slope has eroded away, exposing the root system. This tree has survived for many years, including a recent windstorm with hurricane force winds.

November 19, 2014 – I found this Coyote in a hay meadow along SR 88, just south of Douglas High School.  He looks well fed, just like the
Raptors in the Carson Valley.

IMG_8872 - ealg04

When you can’t find bears, you make images of whatever you find.  This Coyote was in full hunt mode, and paid no attention to us as he was working on getting some dinner.

IMG_7218 - edited 1 8x10 logo lr

I watched him stalk his prey and then make this jump. He came up empty, though.

IMG_7214 - edited 1 logo lr

So he continued hunting.

I’ll insert bear pictures in this page.  Enjoy!!
