PS Challenge – July 29, 2017

I drove up to Reno yesterday to have dinner with an old friend. On my way home, the clouds to the east were just gorgeous so I stopped at the Bellevue interchange (I-580 along Washoe Lake) to take pictures. This image was made looking northeast towards Reno, which was behind me as I was driving.

I merged two exposures in Adobe Camera Raw, processed in PhotoShop with On1 Photo RAW and Nik Color Efex filters. Yes, my Nik filters still work!

PS Challenge – July 22, 2017

Today’s PS Challenge image comes from the edge of the Desolation Wilderness, along the Pyramid Creek Trail. I was out the other day scouting photo locations – scouting because the fires near Yosemite National Park are covering our area with smoke. I tried some things but had very low expectations due to the smoky conditions. A couple images surprised me and I was able to make something useful of them.

The waterfall in the background is Horsetail Falls, easily accessible from US 50 on the west side of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

PS Challenge – July 21, 2017

This PS Challenge image comes from Fisherman’s Wharf in Victoria Harbour. The image was made using bracketed exposures merged in Adobe Camera Raw, then processed in PhotoShop using several layers and masks. This was my most complex image processing to date, and challenged all my PhotoShop skills.

The boat in the background is the MV Coho, the ferry between Port Angeles WA and Victoria.

I like the result, and hope you do, too. I’m thinking print on metal! Enjoy – PHOTOROGR

PS Challenge – July 17, 2017

My lovely bride took me on a water taxi ride a week ago. We ended up in Fisherman’s Wharf – a community of houseboats and wonderful photo opportunities. Here’s one of the images.

As usual, I bracketed exposures, merged in Adobe Camera Raw, and processed in PhotoShop with a Photo RAW filter. I have more work to do on the image – I want to brighten the reflections in the water a little more. Any other ideas?

PS Challenge – July 15, 2017

Today’s PS Challenge image comes from WA 123, just south of the Stevens Pass entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park. My lovely bride and I just returned from a trip to Washington state to celebrate our grandson’s 5th birthday, including side trips to the Palouse Region in southeast WA, Mt. Rainier and Olympic National Parks, and a day in Victoria B.C.

This image was made from two exposures, processed in Photomatix Pro and PhotoShop with an On1 Photo RAW filter.

I’m just starting to work the pictures, so be patient and enjoy! PHOTOROGR

PS Challenge – June 26, 2017

Today’s PS Challenge image comes from the Virginia Range, north of Stagecoach NV. I made this image a few weeks ago when I was out with my old retired guy ATV group. We encountered several bands of wild horses on the ride. Three of these four were more concerned with the guys in the lead, but one kept his eye on me. Bracketed exposures combined in Adobe Camera Raw, cropped in PhotoShop with a filter from Nik Color Efex Pro.

PS Challenge – June 15, 2017

Today’s PS Challenge comes from Lake Tahoe. My lovely bride and I took a drive to the Lake yesterday and hiked around the Taylor Creek Visitor’s Center. We didn’t do the Rainbow Trail – we took the Lake of the Sky Trail to the Kiva Beach area.

For those of you who don’t recognize her, this is my lovely bride. She looks very relaxed since she retired and is sporting a new hairdo!

PS Challenge – June 10, 2017

Today’s PS Challenge image comes from East Valley Road in the Carson Valley. A couple days ago, we had a nice storm front come through, bringing cooler temperatures and some interesting and gorgeous skies. This is a view of Genoa Peak and Duane Bliss Peak, in the Sierras and forming the northwest border of the Carson Valley.

I couldn’t resist processing the image in black and white to bring out the drama.

More landscapes and details…

In my post on April 15 (https://photorogr.com/2017/04/15/landscapes-and-details/), I discussed a method to document one’s photo adventures by showing broad landscapes with a shot or two providing a little detail into the scene. During our trip out the other day, my lovely bride and I saw fields of Western Blue Flag flowers on the valley floor. I found this scene just off Mottsville Lane.

There was a very wet ditch between me and the scene, so I included the barb wire in the composition.

I used the big lens to make this close up image of a Western Blue Flag.
